Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of attitudes to death for elderly women in rural communities.

Methods:Data were collected through a survey of 350 women who were conveniently selected. The questionnaire included items on demographic-sociological factors, attitudes to death, ego-integrity, depression, and social supports. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Duncan, and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program.

Results: The significant predictors of attitudes to death were ego integrity (¥â =.37, p<.001), depression (¥â=-.32, p<.001), age (¥â=.16, p<.001), and disease (¥â=.12, p<.001), explaining 48% of the variance in attitudes to death.

Conclusion:In order to make positive changes in attitudes to death for elderly women in rural communities, it is necessary to provide intervention programs which emphasize improved egointegrity, decreased depression and healthy attitudes to personal living.
